New partnership with Kavli Institute at Peking University
The Excellence Cluster Universe and the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University (KIAA-PKU) have agreed on an official collaboration. The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to intensify the cooperation between both Institutions on overlapping research fields.
The agreement will also help to start an active exchange among scientists. Every year, each partner will host two students and postdocs of the respective other institution for up to one month. Additionally, the Universe Cluster and KIAA-PKU will organize joint research schools and symposia. The research school “International Summer Institute for Modeling in Astrophysics” was already successfully organized in 2011. (Link ISIMA 2011).
The Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics has been founded in 2006 at Peking University. Its research program focuses on the most important areas of astrophysics: Cosmology, first light and galaxy assemblage, gravitational physics and high energy phenomena, as well as interstellar medium, stars and planets.
The Cluster coordinators Stephan Paul and Andreas Burkert are pleased with the new partnership: “The cooperation between the Excellence Cluster Universe and the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics will lead to many new joint projects and will eventually enhance the expertise of both institutions.”
